On Thursday 21st July, three of us (fueled by caffeine and the prospect of chorizo), made our way to the metropolis of Birmingham to host our #MonarchFiesta evening event. This was all to celebrate the best of Madrid and Barcelona with Monarch, by bringing a little slice of Spain to the UK.
We hosted it at the Amantia restaurant, where the lovely Marta helped us put on an authentic evening – she was born in Madrid and visited Barcelona the previous weekend, so we knew we were in good hands. We also had Amar and Shannon from the Monarch cabin crew on hand to be subjected to a wave of selfies from the bloggers that evening, alongside serving our lovely guests drinks, taking coats and generally being pretty helpful. With tapas prepared and sangria flowing, we were ready to start the fiesta!
Greeted by Amar with a glass of Sangria, it seemed like the perfect time to kick things off with a Sangria masterclass with Marta. We learned that Martini Rosso and sugar syrup play a key role in bringing out the different flavours, plenty of ice is best, make sure you add lemonade last and add in whatever fruit you wish. Everyone got stuck in and the scent of fresh fruit was too good to miss! We also had Almudena come and teach our guests some really handy Spanish phrases to help make their way round Spain the best way they can.
The tapas prepared by Amantia was incredible and went down a storm – manchego cheese with a red pepper marmalade, croquetas de bacalao (salted cod croquettes), datiles con bacon (dates filled with Valencia almond and wrapped in pancetta), tortilla de patata (potato, egg and onion omelette) were highlights for our lovely bloggers and for us too.
We rounded off the evening with a flamenco lesson from the very talented Ana, who showed us the passionate Spanish attitude you need for this form of dance. Beautiful hand movements, plenty of stomping and we all learnt a routine that we decided to dive in and get involved with. We shuffled our way round and gave it a good go, with Anj and Elly from our team throwing their hat in the ring too!
Whilst this was all going on, we had two competitions in the running – Best Tweet and Best Selfie with Cabin Crew, for flights to Barcelona and Madrid. Lou from Naturally Beige posted this brie-illiant snap with Amar and bagged herself some flights to Madrid, whilst Hayley from Strangeness and Charm bagged herself flights to Barcelona with her dancing lady emoji tweet! Never a truer word spoken.
We had a blast and it didn’t feel like work at all. Thanks to the fabulous ladies that attended and to Monarch, for making this happen. Here’s our team for the night in full force:

Hasta la vista!
